SCREAMING CROWDS FLEE CAR

-

ELEVEN people were injured yesterday when a car ploughed into pedestrians near London’s Natural History Museum, leading to the driver’s arrest, although officials ruled out a terrorist link.

Crowds in the area fled screaming in panic when the car veered on to the semi-pedestrianised Exhibition Road in South Kensington.

Scores of police quickly responded. “The incident is a road traffic investigation and not a terrorist-related incident,” London’s Metropolitan Police said

The London Ambulance Service treated 11 people, including nine who were taken to hospital.

The black Toyota Prius – a registered minicab – careered into a sign before ultimately crashing into a crowd of people as it hit a silver car.

Witnesses said a bloodsoaked man was pinned to the ground and was “laughing” as he was detained.

The suspect, in his forties, was then taken to London police station where he was questioned on suspicion of dangerous driving, police said.
