Aussies go fishing for coach

-

LAURIE Fisher is a leading candidate to replace Mario Ledesma after the Wallabies scrum coach made the shock decision to quit his ARU contract to become head coach of Argentina’s Jaguares Super Rugby team.

Fisher, who is one of Australia’s finest forwards coaches, could work with the Wallabies and remain director of coaching at the Brumbies where he is contracted.

National coach Michael Cheika has begun interviewing potential replacements for Ledesma although he wouldn’t reveal who.

Fisher has previously been head coach of the Brumbies, then spent three years in charge of English club Gloucester before returning to Canberra recently. Cheika will appoint an Australia scrum expert for the spring tour, before hiring someone full-time in the role next year.

Another candidate could be Nick Stiles, sacked as head coach of Queensland Reds and now looking for a new job.
