RISE AND SHINE FOR BIG BREKKIE

- HOSPITALITY STUDENTS

Hospitality Studies students got cracking early to create a great Queensland Core Skills Breakfast Year 11 Aquinas College

IT’S not often that your school day starts at 5.30am.

Aquinas College Year 11 Hospitality Studies students recently had this early start in order to complete preparations for the annual Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Breakfast.

The 16 students began preparing for this big task at the start of term three.

Recipes were tested and costed in a process to find the best choices within the budget of $5 per person, time constraints for preparation and available facilities.

Student Sage Middleton said most of the Year 12 students ordered bacon and egg muffins. The healthier fruit, yoghurt and muesli option was chosen by the female students.

“I was a little flustered but all the preparation had made the morning smooth sailing and we didn’t experience any hitches,” she said.

About 140 portions of food were served to Year 12 students and senior staff on the morning of the first QCS paper.

Year 12 student Natasha Binderhoffer said the breakfast helped calm her nerves.

“I feel happy the QCS has finally arrived but I am looking forward to the breakfast as much as I am getting the tests over with,” she said.

The Year 11 students said they hoped to get the same quality and variety of food next year for their QCS examinations.

And as the Queensland Government brings to a close this phase of Senior School examinations in the form of the QCS and moves into the new ATAR system, senior students will face entirely new challenges from 2019. But hopefully, the quality of the breakfasts will remain the same.
