STREET TALK

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO REDUCE THE IMPACT OF LARGE HIGHRISES TO BE BUILT ON CHEVRON ISLAND? Leanne Erhard, Mermaid Beach: Re-routing traffic that isn’t specifically coming to Chevron Island would help with congestion and potential worsening of the situation. Extra bridges would also help. Callan Rogers-Ellis, Southport: Use funding for the foot bridge from Evandale to Chevron Island for a car bridge. Diverting traffic using the island as a thoroughfare over new bridges would be ideal. Shanelle Edwards, Benowa: The traffic lights on and off Chevron Island need to be sorted out to stop traffic from backing up across the island. Belinda Lane, Ashmore: The appeal of Chevron Island is that it doesn’t have highrises. We love the village atmosphere. Nino Ieracitano, Ashmore:

People should unite to stop the highrises on Chevron Island. But as long as I can still fish on the island I will be happy. George Duran, Isle of Capri: You can’t do highrises without the infrastructure. Traffic is chaotic on Chevron Island without the highrises, both the bridges are choke points.
