Syrian coach in no mood for handshake

Syrian coach Ayman Hakeem was not a graceful loser after Australia’s 2-1 win in Sydney on Tuesday night. Tim Cahill came to the rescue for the Socceroos, scoring in the second half of extra time to keep his side’s World Cup hopes alive. After the game, Australian mentor Ange Postecoglo­u went over to shake Hakeem’s hand but the coach started raging.

Coast nightclub closes after 13 years

The party is over for owners of Glitter Strip institutio­n Howl at the Moon, who have closed their doors. Co-owners Lou Cerantonio and Mario Zulli were this week gutting their Surfers Paradise venue. Howl thrived for 10 years in Broadbeach’s Niecon Plaza but – claiming their landlord wouldn’t renew their lease – moved in mid-2014.

Woman attacked in her Pimpama home

A Pimpama mum has been left with a broken eye socket and a limp after a man allegedly broke into her house and assaulted her. Stacey Gleeson, 32, was in bed with her two-year-old daughter around midnight on Tuesday, when she heard someone walking around downstairs. “I thought it may have been my son so I checked his room and he was asleep, When I went downstairs to look ... he was hiding behind one of the doors. He threw me onto the bed and punched me over and over. “He tried to steal the TV but he didn’t get it, he just ran out the front door.”

Lotto scammer targets Gold Coasters

A Lotto scammer fooled more than 55,500 people into thinking they had a chance to share in $70 million of winnings. In two days thousands of locals have shared and liked the posts from the scammer parading on Instagram and Facebook. It was closed down on Tuesday afternoon.
