GEORGIA SPRINGBOARDS INTO GAMES CAMPAIGN
TEEN sensation Georgia Godwin has rocketed into 2018 Commonwealth Games medal contention after producing Australia’s best female all-around performance at a world gymnastics championship in six years.
The former Gold Coaster, who returns home this weekend from the world championships in Montreal, Canada, produced a stunning error-free effort to finish 13th with a 52.032 score, in the all-around final.
It is the best world title all-around performance by an Australian woman since four-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lauren Mitchell finished eighth in 2011 in Tokyo, Japan.
Godwin, a 19-year-old now based in Manly West, knows she needs to work even harder to achieve her best at the Coast Games.
“The worlds was definitely a confidence booster looking towards the Commonwealth Games. I went into qualifications and finals just focusing on doing my best and performing clean routines,’’ Godwin said.
“There’s a lot of training and fixing up to do between now and April but I’m ready to do the hard work.”
