Driver ends up in canal

A MAN has made a quick escape after driving into a canal at Mermaid Waters yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Pizzey Dr at 1.20pm following reports a car had driven off the road.

The driver, a man aged in his 40s, managed to climb from the car without assistance.

Emergency services said he complained of a sore back and right hand after the incident.

Police said it was not clear how he managed to end up in the water.
