Concern as car burns

RESIDENTS of a Gold Coast neighbourhood were woken by popping noises and falling embers after a car caught fire yesterday.

Around 5am yesterday, Southport resident Heather and her husband woke to a car fully ablaze close to Alicia St and Blake St in a gravel parking lot behind a strip of shops.

“We were worried the pole would catch alight,” Heather said of an electricity pole a few metres away from the fire.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze within 10 minutes and extinguished it by 5.20am.
