WE’RE BLOWN AWAY BY LACK OF SUNSHINE

- JESSICA ELDER

WEATHER experts predict it will be at least four days before the sun emerges on the Gold Coast.

Gusty winds and downpours sent most Gold Coasters running for cover yesterday.

A few locals braved the outdoors, including Eddie Buffett, 2, who took advantage of the wind with a colourful kite.

More than 100mm fell in Gold Coast Hinterland areas on Saturday night and yesterday, while more than 50mm was recorded on the coast.

Weatherzone meteorologist Tom Hough said a low pressure system had brought the rain, wind and cold.

“The low pressure system will hang around for the beginning of the week, but rain will lessen as the week goes on,” he said.

“We aren’t expecting to see any sun on the Gold Coast until at least Thursday, maybe Friday.”

Strong wind warnings were in place across the city on the weekend, while all beaches were closed. Surf Lifesavers and Council Lifeguards will decide whether to reopen this morning.
