HATS OFF TO FESTIVAL ORGANISERS

- NICHOLAS MCELROY

IT’S already a big hit with locals, now the Gold Coast’s annual busking festival is making an impact overseas too. UK entertainer Daniel Funnell, who performs as ‘Dan the Hat’, said although it was only in its fourth year, Buskers by the Creek had already attracted attention on the international circuit.

He said festival founder and director Cindy Jensen had done a superb job to grow the event in such a short period of time. “What she’s done is incredible, I really need to come to Australia more,” he said. This year’s event, which took place at Winders Park in Currumbin, pulled in more than 300 performers including musicians, magicians, dancers and comics. Organiser Cindy Jensen said nearly 7000 people turned out across the weekend. “The show must go on, as they say, and we are stoked that the rain did not dampen the busking spirit,” she said. “Thousands of people braved the weather (and) ventured creekside to soak up the atmosphere.”
