McEvoy’s runs prove lucrative
JOCKEY Kerrin McEvoy won’t have many more profitable weekends than he’s just enjoyed.
The star jockey wrote himself into the history books when he guided Redzel to victory in the inaugural The Everest at Randwick, collecting a $290,000 fee.
Yesterday, he and Charlie Appleby reprised a devastating partnership to land the Cranbourne Cup in Victoria with import Folkswood.
Together with Don’t Give A Damn’s win in the TAB Highway Consolation at Randwick on Saturday, McEvoy pushed his weekend earning past $300,000.
Folkswood blew his opposition out of the water yesterday, raising the possibility of a tilt at the Cox Plate on October 28 after he firmed from $34 to $18 in a potential clash with superstar Winx.
A Group 1 placegetter in Dubai this year, Folkswood easily accounted for Berisha and Grey Lion to give the international brigade its first spoil of the spring.
“He’s a nice horse with a high cruising speed,” McEvoy said.
“Charlie has a knack of identifying horses who will be suited in Australia and this fellow is another one.
“There’s more improvement in him.”
McEvoy will start a riding ban after the Caulfield Cup meeting on Saturday and will be able to resume on Cox Plate day.
