TWO young female BMX riders are about to take on America’s best after dominating the domestic circuit.

Best friends Tayla Cloete, 13, and Isabella Schramm, 12, will next month compete in the USA BMX Grands after tearing up Australian tracks for the past six years.

“I’m really excited,” Isabella said. “The Americans are really fast.”

But it’s not the first time the girls, who practise at the Ashmore BMX Club, have been overseas. They competed in New Zealand a couple of years ago.

Isabella’s mother Amanda said the girls practised five times a week, including one session together on a Friday.

And when not on their BMX bikes, the pair spend time together surfing and mountain bike riding.

Tayla’s father, Darryl Cloete, said his daughter was lured to the sport by a neighbour.

“A little boy that used to live down the road said have a go,” Mr Cloete said.

“It was only six weeks after she learnt how to ride a bike.

“She was probably six.” Tayla and Isabella recently took out their own age divisions at the Queensland Championships.
