’DON’T SHAME ME FOR BEING HEALTHY’

- KRISTY MUIR

A FORMER reality TV star has hit out at “mummy shamers” and online bullies after being accused of focusing more on fitness than her children.

Cassie Thistleton, a former participant on Seven Year Switch, has been shamed for posting pictures of her yearlong journey to get trim and toned following the birth of her fourth child, Mena Lee.

Ms Thistleton, who lost 26.2kg, hoped to promote better body image and inspire others to get fit but instead has received attacks.

“There’s been comments that your physical fitness after you have children is not the most important thing, giving your time to your children is more important than the way you look,” she said.

“I don’t agree with it at all. “It is not a selfish thing to still want to look good and feel good and be healthy. I am a much better person when I am training and a better mum.”

The Coolangatta local, who is studying to become a personal trainer, said her children loved exercising with her.

“I am training with my children and showing them how to lead a healthy life,” Ms Thistleton said.

“It’s not like I desert them and they are missing out – they enjoy their walks just as much as I enjoy it. At home they enjoy getting involved when I am doing exercise.”

Ms Thistleton said it was time to stop shaming.

“There is never an appropriate time to bully or shame someone privately or publicly,” she said.

“I try to remain calm and get them to see my side. I don’t tolerate that sort of behaviour.”
