Charities face fines

HUNDREDS of Queensland non-profit groups have been threatened with fines after failing to file annual returns with the charity watchdog.

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission yesterday named and shamed 339 groups around the state that have not submitted annual informatio­n statements for 2016. It means almost one in 20 of Queensland’s 7670 charities have not met their legal obligation­sand face fines of up to $5250 if they don’t put things right.
