Law jabs Botox bandit

THE Southport Magistrates Court did not know if Mark Mason was surprised when he was slugged with a $600 fine for theft yesterday.

He was still coming off $640 of Botox treatment he ripped off at Niecon Plaza’s MasterDerm on July 3.

The Botox bandit was lured by the elixir of youth, ordering a face full of treatment from a Gold Coast cosmetic surgeon in an effort to look good.

Yesterday, the 54-year-old single man confessed to stealing the dysport protein treatment.

After giving the clinic a fake address and receiving the regenerative treatment, Mason told staff he had left his wallet in the car before driving off, the court heard.

After he arrived home two hours later, he received a text message from the clinic who told him if he did not return to pay, they would report him to police.

The court heard Mason became angry after receiving the text and decided he would not return to pay.

Three weeks later, after Mason was charged with stealing, he returned to the clinic to pay for his procedure.

Duty lawyer Lisa Searing, of Buckland Allen Criminal Lawyers, said Mason thought he had his wallet in the car when he initially went out to get it.

She said he accidentally provided the next door address because he was house sitting and had not intentionally lied about his contact details.

Mason, who had no criminal history, was fined $600 for leaving without paying for the cosmetic procedure.

MasterDerm staff declined to comment, saying they did not want to breach the privacy of the man who stole from them.
