COAST SURF’S FEMALE WAVE

IT took until 1980 before female lifesavers got official recognition and on the Gold Coast they now annually stage their own celebrations.

In its fourth year, the Women in Surf luncheon at the Currumbin RSL from midday tomorrow includes current Summer Surf Girl Shelly Roberts, world ironwoman champion Shelly Roberts and swim star Giann Rooney as speakers.

The fundraiser helps nippers at the Palm Beach club and the function honours one woman who will be announced as the city’s finest long-term ambassador for the volunteer association.
