The mugshots, taken at various stages in the addicts’ lives, show dramatic changes in their looks in just a few years. Campaigner­s from the charity Rehabs hope that releasing the pictures will discourage people using drugs.

Man tortured boy, 8, to death for ‘being gay’

A man in Los Angeles has been accused of torturing his girlfriend’s eight-year-old son to death because he thought he was gay. Isauro Aguirre, 37, allegedly doused Gabriel Fernandez in pepper spray, forced him to eat his own waste and stubbed cigarettes out on his skin. He is also accused of beating the boy with a bat and shooting him with a BB gun. Gabriel’s mum Pearl Fernandez will also face trial.
