MADDOX A CHIP OFF THE MINGAY BLOCK

- NICHOLAS MCELROY

MADDOX Evel Mingay is champing at the bit to emulate the stunt drivers he’s named after — US legend Evel Knievel and his famous Gold Coast dad Matt.

He was the only 10year-old to drive around the GC600 track at the weekend with his mum Sheena shooting T-shirts into the crowd on a Polaris four wheeler.

But that wasn’t quite fast enough for the Biggera Waters State School pupil.

Next year Maddox said he wanted to take his miniature Trophy Truck out on the course to show off for race fans.

“I like the speed, a lot,” Maddox said.

Maddox’s kart is a scaled-down version of the Stadium Super Truck Matt Mingay crashed during a race in Detroit in June last year.

Mingay was revived after dying on the spot following the horror accident which left him with a broken back and shattered jaw among other injuries.

He returned to the GC600 track for the first time at the weekend after missing out on last year’s event because his doctor’s clearance was a few weeks too late.

The incident doesn’t seem to have curbed the enthusiasm Mingay and his son have for stunt driving.

“Maddox does demonstrations and he races me in my full sized truck,”

“And he beats me, he’s so quick and nimble on it.

“There’s a big V8 engine in my truck but in his is a 250cc dirt bike engine.”
