GOLD COAST WRAP WITH UBET’S NICOLE THOMAS

-

WINNERS ■ Ten Taubada’s (Race 2)

The early money smashed Ten Taubada’s from $2 in to $1.70 but he drifted back out to $2.25. The promising Matt Dunntrained gelding jumped to the lead, handled the slogging conditions better than the rest and hung on for a tough win. ■ Aqua Vite (Race 6)

The aptly named Aqua Vite was the most impressive winner on the day, despite drifting from $2.20 to $2.70. No other runner got a look in, as he relished the heavy track and donkey-licked them by 6½ lengths. ■ Casino Evil (Race 5) Casino Evil was a massive plunge, opening up $19 and shortening to $5.50. The fouryear-old jumped well, got shuffled back midrace and looked to be in an awkward spot. However, the other runners fanned off the fence into the straight and she was able to take the shortcut home, powering away to win.

LOSERS

■ Slydini and Tap This (Race 1)

The first race was not the start punters were after as the drifting roughie Moss Go Now ($31) caused a massive upset. Punters were on Tap This ($4.60 in to $3.80) who went forward, got taken on and finished a disappointing last. Punters also launched at Slydini ($2.30 in to $1.85) who also got caught in the speed battle but unlike Tap This, stuck on well for second. ■ Solarcraft (Race 2)

The well-supported favourite Solarcraft was $3.20 in to $3.00. The Les Kelly-trained four-year-old didn’t seem to have any excuses in the run. He just appeared to not handle the heavy 10 track conditions.

NEXT TIME ■ Manilla Miss (Race 5)

The first starter from the Noel Doyle yard was a heavily supported from $12 in to $6.50. It was a lovely debut as the filly raced four wide at the rear, stuck on well in the straight and wasn’t knocked about. It won’t be long until we see her in the winner’s stall. ■ Desmon’s Pride (Race 7)

Although punters crunched Desmon’s Pride from $4.40 in to $3.70 late, it was never going to be his go on a heavy 10 track. His run was better than it looks on paper as he was never comfortable in the conditions but stuck on gamely in the straight. Follow him on a dry track.
