Seahawks’ Lawyer to help raise the bar

-

THE North Gold Coast Seahawks have announced their entry into the Queensland Basketball League in fine fashion, luring home local talent Remy Lawyer.

The guard, who enjoyed a stellar season with Gladstone’s Port City Power, signed with the Seahawks this week as the club prepares to make its first foray into the state league.

Lawyer played 17 games for the Power and averaged 12.59 points per game which included a season-high 25 points against the Gold Coast Rollers.

“I enjoyed my time in Gladstone and it was a difficult decision,” Lawyer said.

He admitted that family had played a factor in his decision to come home.

“I felt this was the best decision to be close to family and play a major role for the team,” he said.

“The president Angelo Raguz, the general manager Kerran Evans and several members of their newly-established QBL committee were actively communicating with me until an offer could be reached.”

The Seahawks have been a dominant club in the secondtier Southern Basketball League (SBL) over the past decade, building a strong junior base at Runaway Bay.

The men’s SBL team have won four titles and been runner-up twice in the past eight years and the women have won a total of three titles and been runner-up once since the 2013 season.

Lawyer will be one of the leaders at the club and said he will draw confidence from having helped a struggling Power side this season.

“I hope to give the new Seahawks team some QBL experience and make them competitive in the league immediately,” he said.
