Bulletin tipped poll first

YOU read it here first — six days ago the Gold Coast Bulletin tipped Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk would call a snap election for November 25.

In an exclusive confirmed by political sources from both sides of the fence, the Bulletin revealed Queenslanders and Gold Coasters were likely to go to the polls on the date now officially set yesterday.

The Bulletin story cited the resignation of a Labor Brisbane City Councillor Shayne Sutton to be what insiders said was the signal Labor was going to set a late November date.

When the Bulletin put it to Ms Palaszczuk’s office at the time, a spokesperson offered a non-denial denial, cryptically saying: “The third anniversary of the 2015 election is next year”.

And if you think about it, that statement remains true even though the 2017 State election is in four weeks time.
