Barty claims medal gong

ASH Barty, who will start the last tournament of her breakthrough year this week, won her first Ashley Cooper Medal on Saturday night for the best player in Queensland this year.

Barty was in Singapore, where she and Casey Dellacqua were eliminated from the WTA doubles championships on Friday, while she was feted at the annual Tennis Queensland function for a year in which she improved her ranking from No.271 to No.20.

The 20-year-old beat Sam Stosur, John Millman and Blake Ellis.
