McKenzie’s skills ‘good fit’ for Port

-

CAMPBELL Brown says Gold Coast’s Trent McKenzie can add an edge to Port Adelaide’s defence.

McKenzie, a rebounding half-back, is expected to be delisted by the Suns by tomorrow’s list lodgement deadline.

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley would be aware of McKenzie’s strengths and weaknesses from his time as a Suns assistant coach.

Former Gold Coast player Brown said yesterday that while McKenzie, 25, had to work harder on his professionalism he was a huge talent.

“I remember his first couple of years in the AFL, they were unbelievable,” Brown said.

“He got the nickname ‘Cannon’ for his booming left foot. He got a little bit lazy, he was getting games every single week and was never challenged.

“He has had a couple of horrible years with injury but I believe Port Adelaide are right into him and will probably take him as a free agent.”

Port have already secured Jack Watts, Tom Rockliff and Steven Motlop in the trade period and will also consider North Melbourne’s Aaron Mullett and Lindsay Thomas.
