Bryan Adams locks in January concert on Coast

BRYAN Adams will bring his live feel-good rock show to the Gold Coast for the first time when he returns to Australia for a four-date tour in January, it will be announced today.

Adams and Thirsty Merc will play an all-ages concert for 4500 fans at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday, January 10, as part of a short tour to celebrate his new best of album Ultimate, due out on Friday.

The tour opens with an 18+ gig at Bribie Island’s Sandstone Point Hotel on January 9 and includes two A Day on the Green Winery gigs in Victoria, at Mt Duneed Estate, Geelong (January 12), and Mitchelton Wines, Nagambie (January 13).

Frontier Touring founder and head Michael Gudinski said yesterday the Coast concert was a case of “good luck and good timing”.

“Bryan’s trying something that we’ve wanted to try for quite a while here and in New Zealand as well,” he said.

“He’s coming during what is a non-traditional tour period for international acts – from mid-December to late January – and only doing four shows.

“It’s a unique experiment. I think it’s going to work.”

Mr Gudinski, who brought Kings of Leon to the Convention Centre in 2011, said he’d bring more leading acts to the Coast if Adams’ gig sells out.

“If that happens, I’ll be coming back there with something every summer at that time of the year,” he said.

Renowned for his signature brand of rock anthems and big ballads, Adams has enjoyed No. 1 hits in more than 40 countries with songs such as (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, Run To You, Please Forgive Me and Summer Of ‘69.

Greatest hits album Ultimate features 21 tracks including his first new songs in more than two years – Ultimate Love

and Please Stay.

“Bryan loves Australia. I’ve done every tour with him. Bryan’s biggest markets have always been Brisbane and Melbourne,” Mr Gudinski said.

“After he did the AFL grand final he wanted to come back here. With classic acts, you have to be careful not to bring them back too often, so we’re trying something different.”

A Grammy, Oscar, American Music Awards, Ivor Novello and Juno award winner, Adams is writing songs for the stage musical version of Pretty Woman.

Tickets go on sale on November 10 via Ticketek, with a 24-hour presale for Frontier members on November 8.
