YOUR story on cyclists (GCB, 28/10) raises the question of what are the groups of 20 or 30 riders trying to prove, it’s more of a social event than a sporting activity.

The reason they refuse to ride single file is they would not be able to chatter away. Judging from their animated gossip you’d swear they have all been locked up in solitary for a month.

If you live in a quiet street that is a cycle way, they couldn’t care less that it’s 5.30am and people are trying to sleep.

The story photo highlights another problem with all the cyclists wearing dark wrap-around sunglasses. What they don’t realise is that if motorists can make eye contact with rider it solves many problems at intersections and roundabouts.

Cyclists seem to be a law unto themselves. For instance, after they finish their ride, they take over the local coffee shop, making it smell like a gorilla’s armpit instead of going home, having a shower and then meeting up.

CRIME in this state is out of control due to too many years under weak Labor governments and the courts instructed to treat criminals with leniency, privacy rights and prison only as a last resort.

The media now informs us that most of the crime is caused by undesirables out on bail and on parole. Annastacia, it’s time you left.

SUNDAY, October 29, the Queensland election gun was fired and on November 25 there will be many political casualties.

For the voters, one would hope that those seeking election understand politics and the needs and wants of their electorates.

Voters, do not believe the TV visuals, the paid adverts, media commentators or political pundits.

Take some time to write a list of your wants and needs and then compare which political party is most likely to fulfil your wish list.

Remember we have to endure those we have chosen for the next four years.

IF THE tradie on Hedges Ave thinks the bike riders are bad he should try Currumbin Valley.

These arrogant people take over the road in groups, sometimes it’s two or three, other times it can be up to about 30.

They take up the whole lane and block all the traffic behind them in an 80km/h zone.

The road is winding and there are few spots to overtake them.

It seems they get a perverse pleasure in holding up the traffic.

Not only is this a problem but the council has taken to bringing in road closures on Sundays for the cyclists to use for their events.

Locals had to endure such closures on Currumbin Creek Rd during the past two Sundays.

Hello council, this is a public street not a private cycleway.

The councillors who approved this lunacy should be sacked.

We don’t pay our rates so cyclists can use our streets as their own Tour de Valley.
