BEACH WALK

St Francis Xavier School

MORE than 600 St Francis Xavier students recently descended on Main Beach to participate in the annual Beachathon.

Since the school first opened in 1975, students have been participating in this event and walking between one and 10 kilometres, depending on their year level.

Principal Kathy Fuller said the money raised was going towards more resources for the school.

“Our goal is to raise $18,000 with some of the money going towards technology and some towards new playground equipment.

“We do Beachathon because it is a fantastic community event.

“It’s something for the children to enjoy and we were extremely fortunate to have had stunning weather on the day.”

Mrs Fuller said the children had a day out of class and enjoyed each other’s company while raising money for the school.

Year 6 student Brody Smith said: “I love how we get to walk along the beach during a school day and we not only raise money for the school, but we have so much fun doing so.”

The event was introduced when the school first opened more than 40 years ago by the foundation principal, Terry Ivey.

This year’s event was another complete success and has well and truly lived up to the expectations of all St Francis Xavier students.
