Banks team in app game

The Commonwealth Bank, Westpac and National Australia Bank will launch a trial of smartphone application called Beem that enables their customers to pay each other using phone numbers.

The app is aimed at consumers who want to use their phones to transact with friends and family members – for purposes such as splitting bills – or small businesses.

It will initially have sending cap of $200 a day and $6000 a month for each customer.
