Nothing’s won yet, say Tonga

-

MICHAEL Jennings is doing his best to keep a lid on the Tongan hype as the Pacific nation continues to firm with bookies for the World Cup.

Jennings was one of the many stars for Tonga with a three-try haul in the first half of their 50-4 romp over Scotland.

While the in-form centre was pleased with the result, he said the Tongans, led by Jason Taumalolo and Andrew Fifita, were blocking out talk of them going all the way.

Laurie Daley was one expert impressed by the Tongans who believed they could easily reach the December 2 final.

“There’s all this talk but we haven’t proven anything yet,’’ Jennings said.

“We just wanted to win against Scotland, and now our focus will be on Samoa.

“If we keep a healthy roster, anything is possible. I was pleased with my performance on Sunday but more pleased about the outcome.

“I wanted to work with Ata (Hingano) and with him being a young half, I told him it was pretty simple, ‘give me early ball and I’ll do the rest’.’’

Jennings linked down the left edge with his old Roosters teammate Daniel Tupou.
