LAYING GROUND FOR NEW GROWTH
AS IT nears completion of millions of dollars worth of Commonwealth Games construction, Gold Coast builder Condev says it is confident the event will lay the foundations for even more prosperity ahead.
The Robina-based company has been one of the big winners from the Games, picking up about $20 million worth of contracts, including the refurbishment of the Broadbeach Bowls Club, which will host the lawn bowls at the Games, followed by the Asia Pacific and world championships in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
Condev is also finalising the fitout of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) headquarters at Ashmore, where more than 1000 staff will be working ahead of the Games.
It also refitted a former Bunnings hardware store at West Burleigh as a Games volunteer centre.
“The Games have been great for our company and associates, with our projects employing 95 per cent local trades and using 92 per cent local suppliers, which is really putting back into the local community,” Condev business development manager Andrew Speirs said.
“It’s brought a lot of excitement to the company and staff. We’ve employed an additional seven staff who we’ll be able to use on other non-Games projects
“It’s been a good couple of years for us.”
Mr Speirs said as well as more than 100 permanent staff, Condev had employed more than 1700 tradie subcontractors on its Games project, with more working on the last stages of the GOLDOC offices fitout.
