Fare go for cab drivers

CUSTOMERS booking a taxi in NSW will be given a fare estimate by the driver, in a regulation change which will allow taxis to offer discounts and peak pricing similar to Uber.

The changes came into effect yesterday and have been designed to give cabbies the flexibility

Booked trips cannot start until the driver and the passenger have agreed on the estimated fare.

Drivers are now permitted to ask passengers to prepay the estimated fare. to compete with
