CANDYMAN STEPS UP FOR BRYDI

- RYAN KEEN ryan.keen@news.com.au

IT’S Gold Coast playboy Travers ‘Candyman’ Beynon as you don’t normally see him – doing a good community turn.

The tobacco tycoon – infamous for lavish parties and racy social media posts with scantily-clad women– yesterday made the day of sevenyear-old Brydi Saul.

He gifted Brydi, born a paraplegic, with a $7500 custom-made bike she needs to compete in triathlons.

The Free Choice franchise owner’s good deed came after he heard of Brydi’s plight from kids charity I Can I Will.

Brydi dreams of being a Paralympian but her family couldn’t afford the bike.

Mr Beynon said he was keen to help as it involved a kid with big dreams and he liked I Can I Will: “If you build confidence in a kid who believes they can, then they usually will.”

He did the handover at Moo Moo Broadbeach withBrydi’s mum Toni Saul calling him a “wonderful human”.

Mrs Saul said she had seen the stories about Mr Beynon’s infamous Candyman persona but “I never judge a book by it’s cover. Since meeting him, I think he has a heart of gold and he’s helping make my daughter’s dreams come true.”

Asked if he was feeling OK as it didn’t fit his Candyman persona, he said he’d have preferred to do it privately but I Can I Will arranged for media and he agreed for their sake.

“There’s a saying if you do something good and more than two people know, you haven’t done it for the right reasons,” Mr Beynon said.
