PLENTY TO LIKE IN AN INSTA PARADISE
Protesters Falls in NSW were well worth the fight
PROTESTERS FALLS NIGHTCAP NATIONAL PARK, NSW
EVER wonder why those greenies kick up such a fuss about the environment?
One visit to Protesters Falls in northern NSW should answer that question.
Located in the World Heritage-listed Nightcap National Park, the falls are named after the Terania Creek protests which took place in the late 1970s. Those protests are what saved this beautiful rainforest and are the reason that it still exists today.
And every Insta fan should thank those happy hippies of yesteryear.
With a huge drop down a cliff face into a pristine rock pool, shots of these falls are what “likes” are made of.
While the walk to the falls is simple enough – a relatively easy 1.4km return hike through magnificent rainforest – be aware that the road to the carpark covers quite a few kms of gravel road.
It is suitable for 2WD vehicles, but at times of heavy rain it can be inaccessible.
Access Protesters Falls via the town of The Channon and park at Terania Creek picnic are.
Despite a delightful pool at the base of the falls, this is not for swimming as it’s the habitat of endangered frogs - including the threatened Fleay’s barred frog and pouched frog.
However, there are perfect swimming spots nearby downstream, so don’t protest.
Instead, keep your eyes open while walking this track – you might spot a rose-crowned fruit dove, a barred cuckooshrike or even a pademelon.
