‘Cocaine Cassie’ gets six years in jail

Cassandra Sainsbury, 22, has been sentenced to six years after a Colombian judge accepted a plea deal. It means the South Australian could actually be out of prison in 2½ years if she gets time for good behaviour. Sainsbury had faced up to 30 years in a Bogota prison for trying to smuggle almost 6kg of cocaine.

Pedestrian, 42, dead after being hit by a car

A man died on Wednesday night after being hit by a car on a quiet Nerang street. The pedestrian, 42, died at the accident site at the intersection of Weedons Rd and Crusader Way. Police said the driver remained at the scene. Paramedics treated the victim without success.

It rained supreme throughout October

Queensland had its wettest October since 1975, as the state braces for more rain next week.
