‘Cocaine Cassie’ gets six years in jail

Cassandra Sainsbury, 22, has been sentenced to six years after a Colombian judge accepted a plea deal. It means the South Australian could actually be out of prison in 2½ years if she gets time for good behaviour. Sainsbury had faced up to 30 years in a Bogota prison for trying to smuggle almost 6kg of cocaine.

Pedestrian, 42, dead after being hit by a car

A man died on Wednesday night after being hit by a car on a quiet Nerang street. The pedestrian, 42, died at the accident site at the intersecti­on of Weedons Rd and Crusader Way. Police said the driver remained at the scene. Paramedics treated the victim without success.

It rained supreme throughout October

Queensland had its wettest October since 1975, as the state braces for more rain next week. The weather bureau reported the third wettest Queensland October on record, while parts of the Wide Bay, Burnett and North Tropical Coast regions had their wettest ever. Makowata recorded the wettest day of the month when 389mm of rain fell in 24 hours. The BoM found 40 sites across Queensland had their record highest October daily rainfall after several low-level troughs moved over the state.

A Gold Coast mum was trying to juggle an early morning workout by rushing over to check on her five-week-old son in 30 second breaks of her high-intensity training. But what happened next warmed her heart. Her trainer at F45 Southport picked up the crying bub and continued instructin­g the class so mum could continue working out. Trainer Morgan Meredith, 25, said she didn’t think twice when Manawa Ruki’s baby boy Nephi started to cry.
