SHIMANO SHOOTOUT’S BIG MARLIN DIVIDENDS

-

LAST weekend the Gold Coast Game Fishing Club held the annual Shimano Shootout tournament.

It is a catch and release comp targeting mainly big blue marlin out in deep water.

With some of our city’s best fisherman and game boats competing it always gives a great indication for amateur Gold Coast fisherman of how many fish are out there at the moment.

This year the results saw some great news for us all with good numbers recorded considering the tournament was run over just one day (Saturday).

All up there were 21 fish hooked up, and from this 12 were tagged and released.

These 12 were made up of 10 marlin (eight blue and two striped) and two Mahi Mahi.

Congratulations to legendary game boat Mufasa who took out champion boat with two blue marlin. As the water temp rises and the bait moves in closer to shore the black marlin will soon arrive and all indications are when they do it will be in good numbers.

We are seeing plenty being caught inside Fraser Island at the moment and that is traditionally their final stop before arriving in our waters.
