Hard sell on $101 bolter

-

NOTHING Too Hard is still a maiden after 10 starts and the rank outsider at $101 – hardly encouraging statistics going into the Victoria Derby tomorrow.

But the three-year-old classic has a habit of producing the unexpected and trainer Paul Perry is convinced his chestnut gelding will stay the testing Derby trip better than most in the big race.

“The one thing in Nothing Too Hard’s favour is the distance,’’ Perry said.

“He doesn’t have any brilliance about him but he will keep grinding away. I’ve always thought he was a Derby horse because he showed us from day one he can stay.’’

His winless record doesn’t deter Perry – it was only three years ago that Preferment broke his maiden in the Derby.
