Sun sets on off-season for Coast

-

THE Suns will today officially begin their quest to turn the fledgling club around when they welcome back the first group of players for day one of preseason training.

Gold Coast recruits Lachie Weller and Harrison Wigg will meet many of their new teammates for the first time as the first to four year players prepare for a hot summer of work.

The senior Suns will begin preseason on November 20 but many have returned early, choosing to conduct their gym and cardio work at the club over the past fortnight.

The younger playing group will be put through a 2km time trial at their Carrara base today while also do some skills work, weights and swimming.

The first week will be largely about testing the players fitness and determining what individual programs each will be put on to have them ready for the 2018 season.

Palm Beach Currumbin product Brad Scheer will be on an adjusted training plan after having surgery on his wrist in the off-season.

The players will also have medical, physiotherapy and podiatry screenings.

Defender Jack Scrimshaw will be absent from today’s session but will return on Tuesday after attending his father’s wedding in Melbourne over the weekend.
