Families torn apart by madman

-

WHEN medical assistant Kevin Jordan looked next door as semiautomatic gunfire pounded inside his family church, he knew many he loved would be killed.

Mr Jordan said he ran straight into the church after the shooting stopped and described the scene inside as hellish. Among the victims were his best friend’s mother and many lifelong friends.

He said he didn’t attend the church on Sunday but had for many years. “Being a medical assistant, they try to train you for everything, but you can’t have training for this,” he said.

Among the victims was Annabelle Pomeroy, 14, the youngest daughter of church pastor Frank Pomeroy, who was away for the weekend.

Also reported killed were pregnant mum-of-four Joann Ward and her daughter Brooke, 6. Her stepson Rylan, 6, and her daughter Emily, 8, were also hit. Both were in emergency surgery last night.

Retirees Karla Holcombe, who taught Sunday school, and her husband Bryan also died.

“My father was a good man and he loved to preach. They knew where they were going. There’s peace in that,” son Scott Holcombe said.
