Single Gaze ‘flattened’

-

KATHY O’Hara knew her race was over in the first 200m of yesterday’s Melbourne Cup after the hoop said Single Gaze was “flattened” by fellow jockey Frankie Dettori.

O’Hara, who was attempting to become just the second female jockey to win the Cup after Michelle Payne’s breakthrough success on Prince Of Penzance in 2015, said she was always in trouble after copping a nasty bump from Dettori’s mount Almandin when the field were trying to find their positions early.

Single Gaze never recovered and finished 17th.

“It was a bit rough on her and she got flattened inside the first furlong,” O’Hara said.
