‘FIX SCANNER PROBLEM BEFORE GAMES’

-

KIWI tourist Liam McConnochie says compulsory ID scanners in bars are a good thing but need more promotion so visitors are aware.

“People don’t really know the Gold Coast has the ID scanners so they should let people know before they get to the clubs they won’t be allowed in without (current) ID so they can avoid any confusion if they have to be turned away.

“I haven’t personally been denied but understand how being refused entry might be confusing to visitors who don’t speak English if it is an issue with their ID and they’re not just too drunk or whatever.

“It’s probably something they should look at fixing before the Games next year,” he said.

As for frontline bouncers and bar staff he said he found them “generally quite friendly”.

“They are definitely more friendly then from where I am from. I haven’t been to all of the bigger clubs yet so I don’t know if that will be different,” he said.

“I’ve been to a few restaurants and bars and stuff and have found the staff to be really nice and welcoming. I haven’t had any issues at all.”
