Jones: LNP spend is a ‘slap in face’
LABOR claims it will outspend the Opposition as least five times on promoting the Gold Coast as a tourist destination.
Opposition Commonwealth Games spokesman John-Paul Langbroek announced the LNP’s policy yesterday which includes a $4 million Fun in the Sun campaign for the Glitter Strip.
Ms Jones, who had been speaking at a TSS breakfast on the Coast, immediately targeted Opposition leader Tim Nicholls, accusing him of selling the city short.
“Tim Nicholls’s $10 million promise is a slap in the face. Our commitment to attracting flights to Queensland is worth more nearly five times that,” she said.
“Tourism is the lifeblood of the Gold Coast economy and that’s why our promise to invest $134 million in Queensland tourism is such an important announcement for the Glitter Strip.”
Ms Jones said Labor would invest $48 million on attracting international flights and strengthening the links between our domestic airports to make sure tourism businesses in cities like the Coast continue to prosper.
Opposition tourism spokesman Jon Krause said revitalising the Coast tourism industry and unlocking its potential was a crucial part of the LNP’s plan to Build a Better Queensland.
“We understand that tourism investment and attracting more domestic and international tourists will create jobs and help families get ahead,” he said.
