ING scraps charges

-

GLOBAL ATM fees and transaction charges for shopping online for overseas goods are being dumped by one bank.

ING yesterday revealed it was removing a range of the despised fees. The move could save customers making a $1000 online transaction anywhere between $30 and $50, according to analysis by financial comparison site RateCity.

It comes just two months after the nation’s big four banks all announced they were dumping ATM fees – although ING has rebated customers’ ATM fees since 2009.

ING’s head of retail banking, Melanie Evans, said the new move would allow fee-free use of ATMs anywhere in the world. “We are trying to offer value to customers who are using ING as their main bank,’’ she said.

“We think it’s a perfect time to announce this with Christmas and the holiday season fast approaching.

“There’s nothing worse than getting that January statement and seeing international transaction fees.”
