Net speeds to improve
NATIONAL broadband network speeds could soon improve as retailers are now buying more bandwidth, the competition watchdog says.
Telcos bought more of what is known as connectivity virtual circuit in September than they did three months earlier, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said in its latest report on the NBN.
ACCC chairman Rod Sims said adequate CVC was essential for households and businesses to get the speeds they were promised, and the watchdog was closely monitoring how much CVC was being bought and used.
The most popular speed of NBN connections was the second-tier 25 megabits a second, he said, which was used by 55 per cent of all services.
Just 4 per cent use 50 megabits a second and 12 per cent are using 100 megabits a second.
Mr Sims also said it was clear competition was developing among NBN providers.
