THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX WITH SAND
THIS is one idea that’s out of the sandbox and into reality.
Joseph Golubinsky, who has marketed real estate to the Russians and sold designer labels by the gram, has a new venture inspired by the simple joy of playing with sand, securing sole distribution rights in Australia for iSandBox.
The educational interactive sandpit is designed to teach children fine motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination while engaging their imagination.
The concept was first deployed by researchers at the University of California before Russia-based Universal Terminal Systems launched iSandBox last year after developing patented software.
Mr Golubinsky said he was researching interactive technology for children when he came across the iSandBox.
“It’s infotainment for children,” he said. “It engages their imagination and helps them develop a range of skills.”
The machine, which is 2m high and weighs 130kg, consists of a box full of sand and a projector, which displays on to the sand 3D images of water, mountains, volcanoes, snow and other objects, as well as playing music and nature sounds. Interactive game modes demonstrate the mapping of mountains and explore the four seasons.
Mr Golubinsky has started marketing it to early learning centres and primary schools on the Gold Coast. The iSandBox sells for $15,900 or can be rented for $98 per week.
