Bridge links oceanway

- LEA EMERY

A NEW bridge had scores of people flocking south to test out the newly linked Currumbin Oceanway.

The Gold Coast City Council yesterday held a party in the park to celebrate the completion of the $1.5 million project.

The eight-month project included a new bridge to connect Kropp Park and Len Wort Park, replacing the old bridge across Flat Rock Creek.

“The timber bridge was becoming hollow,” Currumbin councillor Gail O’Neill said.

“Now there is a five metre wide bridge that will see us through to 100 years time.”

A portion of footpath was also upgraded.

The bridge ensures the southern Commonwealth Games venues, such as the beach volleyball is accessible by pedestrians and cyclists.
