GOING GLOBAL TO STUDY
Studying abroad at Lund University was the perfect launching pad for European adventure and lifechanging experiences
JEFFREY KIEFFER BOND UNIVERSITY STUDENT IN SWEDEN
AS international ties between universities go from strength to strength, opportunities to take your tertiary education onto foreign soil are increasing.
Personally, I think studying abroad is a must.
It’s been a challenging but rewarding time at Lund University, where my social comfort zones have been pushed in order to create new friendships and memorable experiences.
In the subjects I’ve undertaken: “Introduction to Swedish” and “Mobile Industry Dynamics” to name a few, the class groups have been nothing short of multicultural.
From Albania to Zimbabwe, it’s amazing to see individuals from all walks of life in the same auditorium, learning together.
However, since arriving in Sweden during the second half of August, it’s definitely been a balancing act of attending class and getting to the airport.
The pass or fail system for my subjects as a one-semester exchange student has conveniently freed up quite a lot of spare time.
That’s not to say that I haven’t been attending university – because I promise I have – it just means that there is less academic pressure and more time for me to travel.
Lund is a cosy town with a lovely atmosphere by all means, but so far the majority of my memorable experiences have been off-campus.
Situated only a 30 minute train ride from Copenhagen airport, I’ve succumbed to the temptations of a quick international getaway on several occasions.
Most notably I have revisited Iceland, hiked in Italy’s Dolomites and soaked in the views on the French Riviera.
Going on exchange in Sweden will make for a fantastic trip, but fair warning, my opinion may by swayed when the Nordic winter sets in.
