Mayor in recovery

GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has undergone surgery to remove bowel cancer.

The mayor went under the knife last night at Pindara Private Hospital and is understood to be in recovery this morning. He is surrounded by family and will recover under doctor’s care in coming weeks.

Deputy Mayor Donna Gates will serve as Acting Mayor until Cr Tate’s recovery.
