Games boost

-

“It’s really good to have quality people available who are also keen on representing the city.”

The 30 recruits have this week joined their new colleagues in completing proficiency testing at Burleigh and Greenmount to ensure they remain among the best drilled lifeguards in the world.

Burleigh councillor Pauline Young said she wanted locals to share a simple message with Games tourists next year,

“We should all spread the word to swim between the flags and remember that if our lifeguards can’t see you, they can’t save you,” she said.

“We will have people from all over the world in our city (and) many won’t be familiar with our surf conditions or the safest places to enter the water.”
