Jury out in Carter killing case

- ALEXANDRIA UTTING

THE jury in the doublemurder trial of Gold Coast soldier Chris Carter yesterday retired to consider their verdict.

Christopher Robert Carter, 39, is accused of the stabbing murder of his ex-wife Renee Carter and her convicted paedophile boyfriend Corey Croft at their Upper Coomera home on January 20, 2015.

Carter, who was previously based at Canungra Army Barracks, last week pleaded not guilty to both charges at the start of his Brisbane Supreme Court trial by a jury of six men and six women.

He has conceded to having stabbed the pair at their Skylark St home but his defence counsel argue he acted in selfdefence after Ms Carter came at him with a knife.

During his closing address, Crown prosector Glen Cash, QC, argued Carter intended to kill Mr Croft and Ms Carter.

Ms Carter was found with more than 10 stab wounds to her body, including a fatal blow to her neck, which severed her spinal cord. Mr Croft had five stab wounds to the neck and head, the court heard.

“The number of injuries speak of deliberate (actions) and intent, not someone who is flailing around in self-defence,” Mr Cash told the jury.
