ALL THAT GLITTERS

-

IT was fitting in many ways to see progression of another kind kick off on the Gold Coast this week – Meter Men.

The male version of the 52-year Surfers Paradise tourism attraction that is the famed Meter Maids got off to a hot start, with two resident Finnish body sculptors proving a huge hit – particularly with female visitors.

The idea gathered steam after a question at the Bulletin’s Going for Gold Commonwealth Games legacy symposium last month about why national Meter Maid tours were no longer.

Ensuing debate about the appropriateness of the bikini-clad service in 2017 prompted brand owner Roberta Aitchison to fast-track plans to even up the gender balance.

Done properly with the right type of staff, it can be a very positive gimmick for the city’s reputation.
