Hawaii crucial in fight for tour spots
THE fight for spots in next year’s World Surf League Championship Tour (CT) is ramping up with several locals fighting for their spots at the Hawaiian Pro, the opening event of the Triple Crown.
With the event carrying 10,000 points in the Qualifying Series (QS), a strong result could help push surfers that will not automatically requalify for the CT back into contention for a spot.
Gold Coaster Jack Freestone, Tweed product Josh Kerr and Lennox Head’s Stuart Kennedy are among the surfers who remain in contention after the opening round of competition at Haleiwa. The trio are all outside the top 22 on the CT and need to push into the top 10 unqualified athletes on the QS to regain their position for next season.
